Here are the world’s best chessplayers based on their current ranking. Some of them have been chess stars from the age of 5. Others picked up chess from their teenage years. Some of them have huge million dollar worth of a professional team behind them, others themselves and that’s it. This is the top 10 world’s best chess players.
10. Anish Giri – 2770
Russian born Dutch grandmaster. He was a grandmaster already at the age of 14 and has won the dutch chess championship 4 times. No suprise the current best Dutch chess player.
9. Hikaru Nakamura – 2779
A 29 year old grandmaster and currently the bust chess player in the USA. He became a grandmaster at the age of 15.
8. Visvwanathan Anand – 2779
The indian man that was the world champion from 2000-2002 and 2007-2013. He lost the title to Magnus Carlsen.
7. Sergey Karjakin – 2784
In 2002 this brillian chess player earned the title of a grandmaster at the age of 12. This is the youngest age at which a person has managed to obtain this title. Russian, 26 year old and currently fighting Magnus Carlsen for the world championship of november 2016
6. Levon Aronoian – 2785
34 Year old chess player from Armenia. He had the number 2 spot in the rankings in 2014, but has lost a few points the last 2 years. Was for a long time considered one of the top 2 best chess players in the world.
5. Wesley Barbosa So – 2794
A Flipipino chess grandmaster representing USA. He was the youngest man to ever break the elo ranking of 2600, which broke Magnus Carlsen’s record. Has been growing incredibly much the last few years and is considered by many to continue his chess career even further.

Earned the grandmaster title at an age of 14. Has won lots of tournamets such as French U8, French U10, French U12, World Juniour championship and European Blitz 2010 and 2014, just to mention some..

2.Fabiano Caruana – 2823
24 Year old representing USA. He was only 14 years old when he achieved the chess grandmaster title. Fun fact: From the age of 4, Caruana lived in Brooklyn, New york – the same area as Bobby Fischer. His talent was already discovered at the age of 5.
1.Magnus Carlsen – 2840
The current world’s best chessplayer, representing Norway. He has won the chess world championship in both regular, blitz and rapid. He is by far the most famous player on this list, not just due to his rank, but also because of his playstyle. He is a super agressive player, known to “squeeze blood from stone”, creating opportunities none could ever think of. He became world famous when he was 13 year old, ranked 700 and played Kasparov who was ranked number 1 at that time. He managed to suprise everyone and the chess game ended with remis.
